March 14:    Board Meeting at 7:30P at the home of Sandy Roth
March 21:    Speaker: Dave Johnston
 Topic: Bromeliads Galore

Dave’s interest in Bromeliads began in 1985 when he purchased two bromeliads that Frank’s nursery had for sale. A cryptanthus Pink Starlight and a neoregelia carolinae type. Soon thereafter, he learned there were bromeliad clubs that shared similar interests. He joined some. By 1990, Dave had acquired so many bromeliads that he launched Bromeliads Galore – a collector’s nursery. Over the past 32 years, Dave has acquired over 2,000 different species and hybrids. As time passes, he became more sensible and has since significantly scaled back the number of plants – now he has perhaps 1200 different species or hybrids. Dave has served five terms as President of The Bromeliad Guild of Tampa and two terms as President of the Florida West Coast Bromeliad Society. Dave has served most every office there is in these clubs in addition to the Florida Council.

Jorge will be exploring Alex's botanical adventures and the recipes Alex returned with, fromhis collecting trips around the world. “A World of Vegetable Cookery is a result of combining my interests in botany and cooking over a number of years. My researches on my particular botanical specialties – orchids, palms, bromeliads, and certain other groups of plants – have taken me to many parts of the globe. Everywhere I have traveled, I have had the opportunity to note the good things that appear from the kitchen or campfire.” – Alex D. Hawkes - Coconut Grove, Florida (1968)

December 12:    Board Meeting at 7:30PM at the home of Barbara Partagas
December 19:     Holiday Party Pot Luck

Call Sandy Roth 305-301-0306 or Mike Michalski 305-279-2416
to offer your culinary masterpiece that you elect or wish to
deliver to the December 19th Holiday Party.

 Plant Exchange at Holiday Party
It has simple rules. Wrap a bromeliad so that the naked eye cannot
 discern  the
plant within. When you arrive with such a plant, you
receive a ticket – a la raffle style. The master ticket holder will call
out numbers in an order – hence the first called will have the pick
of one of the plants wrapped; and the second will have one pick of
 the
remaining plants, and so forth. If you really want to engage,
bring wrapped plants, or even more, and you will receive more
tickets, which means you will have more wrapped plants to blindly
 pick up.
